Going green

At Bott & Co, we understand that it’s important to incorporate a ‘green’ approach to our working practice and have adopted a positive, energetic and tenacious attitude to “being Green”.

Many firms consider that environmental issues deserve large scale projects and goals. In many cases, this can have a negative impact where staff members find the concept of “being green” daunting, are resistant to change or feel out of their comfort zones.  Instead, we saw that small changes can have a large impact, so have set goals which are readily achievable.

Streamlined communication

One such change is to promote the use of email or SMS text whenever possible.  In fact, we have the ability to liaise with our clients entirely by electronic means throughout the claims process.  Not only does it save paper, our clients say that they value this more convenient and quicker form of communication.

Other little steps we are implementing include:

  • Reminding everyone to turn off lights, printers, monitors and to unplug chargers etc in the evenings or when no longer in use
  • Recycling paper and making this easy for everyone by ensuring there are sufficient recycling bins dotted around the office;
  • Using recycled paper for the printing of letterheaded paper.  Due to the simple task of recycling office paper we have saved:
    • 63.568 trees from destruction in year 1
    • 119.4 trees from destruction in year 2
  • Ensuring computers and IT hardware is properly disposed off in accordance with appropriate regulations
  • Recycling plastics used by staff within the firm, meaning that members of staff take large quantities of empty milk bottles and other plastics to recycling plants almost daily
  • Ensuring working computers and IT hardware is recycled at our own cost to be used by charities and schools
  • Purchasing laptops and providing remote access by PC and telephone for staff members, increasing their accessibility for customers and enabling them to offer an even better service

Through these measures and more, we’re committed to becoming more environmentally friendly and reducing our carbon footprint on an ongoing basis.
