We recovered £1,050 in compensation from Jet2Holidays after Paul Wright and his son were ill for most of the duration of their holiday in Marmaris, Turkey.
Paul Wright from Widnes, Cheshire decided to go on a two week-long holiday to Marmaris in Turkey with his partner and their son, Paul. This was a holiday they had been looking forward to going on as a family.
They booked it through Jet2Holidays as an all-inclusive holiday. This included flights from Manchester to Marmaris, transfers from the airport to the hotel and the accommodation at Green Nature Resort Diamond Hotel for 14 nights.
The holiday did not get off to a good start…
“We got off to a bad start because when we arrived at the hotel, we noticed that we had left our duty free purchases on the coach that brought us from the airport. By the time we had realised, the coach had already pulled away.
“We rang the coach company from the hotel and they told us it wasn’t there. We assumed it had been taken.
“We went to find the Jet2Holidays representative and told him what had happened. He was just writing things down and keeping us sweet. This was only the beginning of our nightmare holiday.”
“It wasn’t until the second week that I became very unwell”
“Where do I start? The holiday illness was endless. When we arrived at the hotel, the food was all open; it was cold and didn’t taste good. It was a very busy hotel so there were a lot of people to cater for. Hotel guests would pick food out of the bowls with their bare hands and put it back. It was disgusting.”
There were wild cats running around our feet when we were eating, it was just horrible.
“The glasses we were given for drinks had cigarette ash in the bottom from when someone had been using the glass as an ash tray. The hotel staff just couldn’t be bothered to clean it properly.”
Paul and his son suffered from symptoms such as stomach cramps, severe diarrhoea and vomiting, all symptoms that relate to food poisoning.
“I was so ill that I spent six days out of my holiday confined to my room in bed. My family and I missed out on several excursions including: diving, jet skiing, visiting the water park, taking part in a boat trip and even shopping.”
Paul’s son had to be taken to hospital in Turkey…
“As my son was five years old, he suffered more and was rushed into hospital. They were putting drips in his arms. The whole holiday had been ruined for him, it was awful.
“We mentioned everything to the Jet2Holidays rep but he didn’t seem to do anything. He didn’t go out of his way to help us at all.
“A lot of people were also ill during the time we were there and had to go into hospital, it just shows how bad the hotel was.”
Travelling home unwell was unpleasant for Paul and his son…
“Upon arriving home, my symptoms will still so severe that I was admitted to hospital for three days. I developed an eye infection from the dirty water in the pool. It had foam around the edges, something that you’d see in a lake!”
The road to claiming holiday illness compensation
“After I had got over my symptoms, which ended up lasting a whole two weeks I thought I might try and claim. The whole holiday ended up as a total disaster and a waste of money.
“I did a Google search for holiday illness compensation and found Bott and Co Solicitors. I read the customer reviews and decided to pursue a claim based on the positive reviews
“The service was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t fault it. I was so happy when I found out how much I would be receiving. It was a new holiday for us!”
